Superintendent brags on band programs, highlights student health measures

Christian County Public Schools Superintendent Chris Bentzel is expressing his pride in the local band programs and his administration’s focus on student health and safety.

The Christian County Colonel Band and Hopkinsville High School Band of Tigers marching bands have been raking in the accolades this year, placing high in several competitions in multiple categories. Superintendent Bentzel says everyone is very proud, saying it shows just how much hard work and dedication these music students have put into their art and performance.

They’re not the only local band who have seen success this year—the marching bands in Trigg and Todd County are also doing well doing their marching seasons.

In accordance with House Bill 331, the district has ensured that school nurses, athletic directors, athletic trainers and coaches are able to act quickly in the event of a cardiac arrest incident for students.  Bentzel says they’ve worked hard to make sure staff is fully trained and also that AED machines are readily available, in the event one is needed.

He says he’s proud of the work they’ve done and of the knowledge that their students, athletic or otherwise, are safer with these health plans in place.

CPR training has also taken place across district athletic sites. An AED is a medical device that delivers an electrical shock through one’s chest that helps restore the heart rhythm to normal.
