With their 49th annual Unity Breakfast set for next month the Hopkinsville-Christian County Human Rights Commission shared details for the breakfast, their award nomination deadline extension and highlighted other community events they are hosting.
Members from the Commission appeared on WHOP to give the community a preview of what to expect at their Unity Breakfast on October 26 at 7:30 a.m. at the James E. Bruce Convention Center.
Commission Board member, Nikki Chambers unveiled that the Breakfast will have a panel centering on discussing topics surrounding this year’s theme of unarmed truth and unconditional love which will be moderated by Publisher and Editor of the Hoptown Chronicle, Jennifer Brown.
At the Breakfast the the Hal and Bettye Thurmond Award, the Mayor’s Unity Award, the Standard Award and the Outstanding Volunteer Award will be presented to members of the community, and Commission Executive Director, Raychel Farmer says the awards can go to individuals or organizations that play a role in the community.
Farmer and Chambers shared that the deadline for award nominations has been extended to September 29, and nominations can be made at hoptown.org/hrc and nominees will be evaluated with a scoring system.
Along with accepting nominations, Farmer says they are welcoming table sponsorships and those interested can contact any member from the Commission Board and sponsoring organizations can receive diversity training.
Beyond their plans for the Unity Breakfast, Farmer says they are recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month and hosting club meetings where they explore different cultures.
The Commission will have a Hispanic Heritage Month proclamation on Tuesday with City Council at 5:50 p.m. at the Hopkinsville Municipal Center.
