Public library director shares plans for renovations, upcoming programs

The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library is readying for interior renovations, Library Executive Director, Tiffany Luna appeared on WHOP to talk about what changes to expect as well as monthly library programs.

Luna says the last updates the library has seen was around 10 years ago and she looks forward to updating their meeting rooms, bathrooms, elevator and more.

Luna says they will soon be putting out a bid for contractors.

The library is one of multiple organizations participating in this year’s Big Read event which is centering on a book of poetry titled, “Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude” by Ross Gay. Luna says their first Big Read related activity will kick off on September 27 with an adult collage workshop at the library.

Regarding Gay’s book, Luna says she understands that poetry is not for everyone, but feels as though there is a poem from everyone in this book.

Beyond the Big Read Luna also highlighted the recent appointment of Nickie Gaffney as the Imagination Library Director as well as what the Imagination Library does.

The Imagination Library is an initiative founded by country singer Dolly Parton that provides free monthly books to children until the age of 5 focusing on the importance of early childhood literacy.

The Imagination Library is open to children in the county and Fort Campbell and Luna says the books given will be geared toward the child’s reading level and that families with multiple children can receive books for each child.
