The Madisonville Police Department has charged two women in connection with abuse of a toddler, after they allegedly failed to seek medical care for broken bones.
According to a news release, detectives responded to a residence on South Kentucky Avenue in Madisonville for reports of possible abuse or neglect of a child. Investigation revealed that 45-year-old Melissa Gaither of Madisonville had knowledge that a 3-year-old child in her custody had broken bones, but did not seek medical attention for the child for nearly ten to 12 hours.
In that time, the child was also reportedly in the care of 21-year-old Talashiea Martin of Madisonville, who allegedly failed to report the incident or seek medical care for the toddler.
Gaither is charged with second-degree criminal child abuse and Martin charged with failure to report child neglect/abuse.
Gaither was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
