Golf Scramble funds set to support community college students

With the annual Mike Foster Golf Scramble right around the corner, Foster talked with WHOP about how the community can get involved with the event and support Hopkinsville Community College students.

Entering its 33rd year, the Golf Scramble is a Hopkinsville Community College Foundation event that raises scholarship funds for students attending the Community College. Foster says the event started after he had been a big supporter of the Foundation and wanted to find a fun way to engage the community while also supporting students.

As of right now the Golf Scramble can only take one more team until the event is full, but those still interested in supporting can also do so as sponsors. Foster says there are plenty of opportunities for those interested to sponsor a hole on the course or sponsor the event’s breakfast and beverage service.

According to a press release from the Foundation, all of the proceeds from the Golf Scramble will go toward student scholarships, the campus’ Pathfinder Pantry, their emergency student fund and other student programs.

One specific scholarship that will be benefited is their textbook scholarship. According to the news release textbook costs alone for incoming students have increased to an average of $600 each semester, and for nursing and health students, the costs can be around $1,100 each semester.

Foster says the Community College is an important asset and by supporting students through scholarships people are supporting the greater community.

Those interested in being the final team in the Golf Scramble or sponsoring the event can contact Foster at 270-886-1272. The Golf Scramble kicks off at 8:30 a.m. on September 29 at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club.
