WHOP Sports has learned that University Heights Academy will not have a Girls Varsity basketball team for the 2023-24 season. UHA Athletic Director Taylor Sparks confirmed Thursday night that due to low numbers they will not field a team this season. Sparks said the school plans to start a girl’s middle school program with hopes to be able to field a varsity team in the future. The Lady Blazers played a varsity only schedule last season because of low numbers and most games played with only 6 available players. Three members of last year’s team have transferred to Hopkinsville High School and plan to play for the Lady Tigers this season pending approval from the KHSAA. Sparks said they should be able to play this season because of the situation at UHA. UHA will send their official letter of intent to the KHSAA on Friday.
