Man charged with assault, second-degree robbery

A man has been charged with assault and second-degree robbery following an incident at the East Ninth Street Dollar General Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Hopkinsville police report, officers responded to reports of a shoplifting complaint at the Dollar General and upon arrival, determined that a suspect had hiding 8 bags of laundry detergent pods in his pants before attempting to leave the store.  When confronted by staff the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Jarvis Caldwell, allegedly grabbed the employee by the arm and shoved her.

Caldwell was located on College Street and allegedly began resisting while being taken into custody. He allegedly grabbed the officer by the arm and ankle and reportedly attempted to bite the arresting officer on the arm.

Officers reportedly located drug paraphernalia on Caldwell’s person.

He was arrested and charged with second-degree robbery, third-degree assault of a police officer, second-degree fleeing or evading police and possession of drug paraphernalia.
