Grand jury returns numerous indictments for assault

A Christian County Grand Jury has returned numerous indictments for assault.

Indicted for first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon is 31-year-old Devon Poindexter, who is accused of shooting Benjamin Murray at a party on East 14th Street in May. It sent Murray to the hospital for treatment. Poindexter also allegedly fired that handgun in close proximity to others who were leaving the party, putting them at risk.

Thirty-year-old Cory Carneal of Hopkinsville was indicted for second-degree assault, for allegedly striking a victim above the right eye with a razor blade, causing serious physical injury.

Indicted for second-degree assault domestic violence, first-degree strangulation and first-degree unlawful imprisonment is 40-year-old John Foster of Hopkinsville. He allegedly severely assaulted his wife in July at a residence on East 23rd Street, striking her multiple times with his fists and squeezing her around the throat with his hands.

The victim was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, and she was having trouble remembering events and answering questions while speaking with law enforcement
