Man charged with assault, wanton endangerment of a police officer

A Hopkinsville man is facing assault and wanton endangerment charges after he allegedly punched an officer and pointed a gun at law enforcement.

According to the Hopkinsville Police Department report, officers responded to the 900 block of Wing Tip Circle around 10:30 a.m. for reports of a man pacing back and forth outside of a residence with a rifle. Upon arrival, they reportedly made contact with 70-year-old Yahshua Muhammad of Hopkinsville through an open front door, where he was sitting with a shotgun on the table in front of him.

When they addressed him, Muhammad allegedly pointed the shot gun at the ceiling and front door in the direction of officers. He did put the gun down when he was directed to and came outside.

During the arrest, Muhammad allegedly punched an officer in the chest and had to be put on the ground before successfully being taken into custody.

He is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, third-degree assault of an officer, resisting arrest and second-degree disorderly conduct.
