Parks and Recreation Superintendent shares community updates at Kiwanis Club meeting

Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Superintendent Toby Hudson updated Kiwanians on upcoming events and changes set for Hopkinsville at Thursday’s Kiwanis Club meeting.

Hudson says this year’s Summer Salute has been the biggest they have prepared for nearly doubling the number food and merchandise vendors typically set up at the festival.

Along with the increase in vendors, Parks and Recreation will have interactive activities for festival goers to help gauge the number of attendees.

Parks and Recreation Marketing and Events Coordinator Rachel Sanders says attendees can participate in a photo contest which requires contestants to post on social media and tag Parks and Recreation, and a scavenger hunt will also serve to engage attendees and gauge festival attendance.

Summer Salute will take over downtown Hopkinsville on August 25 and 26. More information about the festival is available at hoptownsummersalute.com.

Hudson also talked about the upcoming closure of Bluegrass Splash waterpark cutting its open season short.

Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight announced the closure at City Council’s Tuesday meeting. Hudson says the problem originated from a small leak that continued to grow, Parks and Recreation will find out the extent of repairs required once the waterpark closes.

Bluegrass Splash will close on August 6 cutting the open season short by nine days.

A news release from Parks and Recreation regarding the waterpark says the early closure will help them set up for a successful 2024 season, and those with 2023 season passes will be granted a $10 discount for 2024 season passes as compensation.
