Double-murder suspect requests evidence suppression hearing

Double-murder suspect Anthony Gaines submitted an evidence suppression motion which was discussed on Wednesday in Christian County Circuit Court.

Gaines was taken into custody in 2021 for having a suspected connection to the shooting deaths of two people in Ashwood Village in August 2021.

Circuit Judge Andrew Self and Gaines’ Defense Attorney Brandi Jones set at suppression hearing for September 5.

Following the setting of the hearing Jones discussed some obstacles regarding the defense’s review evidence. Jones told Self most of the discovery for the case is digital and Gaines does not have access to a computer in the jail.

Jones says this is only a recent issue as the laptop inmates had access to was recently removed.

Jones requested for Gaines to be able to review discovery in the court. In response, Christian Commonwealth Attorney, Stephanie Bolen says the lack of computer access comes at a time where inmates contraband in the jail has increased, but she will work toward seeing what accommodations are available for Gaines.

Self says if Bolen is not able to find accommodations in the jail for Gaines, then the court will work to ensure that Gaines will be able to review the evidence in his case.
