Timeline set in court for Phoenix Building demolition

Demolition will continue as planned for the Phoenix Building in downtown Hopkinsville, after a request for an extension of time was denied in court Wednesday morning.

According to court documents, a motion for an extension of time on the demolition project was denied by Judge Andrew Self and a time frame was set for demolition on the building to begin on August 7.

An agreement was reached in Christian Civil Court last month that the historic building at the corner of East Ninth and Main Streets would be demolished.  This comes after was deemed unsafe to enter in January of this year.

Other buildings in that same area have already been demolished, including the addresses of 806, 808, 810 and 812 South Main Street. They at one point housed Lee’s Pool Hall, Woods Pharmacy and the Main Street Café.
