Longtime City Financial Officer Robert Martin appeared on WHOP recently, as he prepares for a life of retirement after working with the City of Hopkinsville for 20 years.
Martin says a lot has changed over those years, from working with five different mayors and 11 city councils, and for the most part, it has been a joy and an honor to serve the people of Hopkinsville. He says there’s more to the job than just balancing budgets—his office is responsible for all the tax collection in the city.
The City of Hopkinsville just recently collected one billion dollars in payroll taxes, and Martin says he was glad to see it happen before he left office.
One thing he’s proud of that the city has accomplished in his time are the massive efforts to mitigate flooding issues in the community.
Martin has received a plethora of awards during his time with the city, including The Kentucky Government Finance Officers Association Outstanding Achievement Award, a Master of City Governance designation by the Kentucky League of Cities and the City of Hopkinsville finance department received numerous Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
Melissa Clayton steps in as CFO with Martin’s departure.
