Todd Fiscal Court hears update on reapportionment, county-wide planning and zoning

Todd County Fiscal Court heard an update on reapportionment efforts at Friday morning’s meeting, along with an update on a county wide zoning initiative.

Todd Fiscal Court had previously approved a contract with Plans and More, LLC of Logan County to draft a comprehensive plan to implement countywide planning and zoning. County Attorney Jeff Traughber said Friday that the contractor is about 50 percent done with research, but they expect to host public hearings on the matter in the near future.

The Fiscal Court has expressed a desire to use planning and zoning as a mechanism to restrict what type of new growth may be on the drawing table for Todd County. It’s not final that planning and zoning will happen or how what shape it will take.

The commission formed to examine data from the 2020 Census and develop a plan for how reapportionment will take place in the county have come up with a recommendation and County Clerk Cindy O’Byran presented it to magistrates. She says most districts saw some kind of growth or decrease in population.

She described the reallocation of population to meet the parameters required by law.

No action was taken concerning the reapportionment, as a finalized version of the recommended plan must be drawn up, but once it is, Fiscal Court will need to approve it twice and from there it will head to the State for approval.
