A local legislator is responding to Governor Andy Beshear’s claim that the call for an examination of the Team Western Kentucky and Team Eastern Kentucky Relief Funds is political.
Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke says the audit has become necessary after many people who never filed claims for the money received a $1,000 check from the funds. He says they still don’t know how many that was and since they each contained a letter from the governor, he feels it was already political in nature.
He says those funds weren’t tax payer dollars, they were private donations, and he says the governor’s office remains illusive to their questions.
The State Auditor’s Office has already stated it will conduct an audit of the funds that were to provide relief funding to victims of the December 2021 tornadoes in western Kentucky and the devastating flooding in eastern Kentucky from last year.
