A Hopkinsville native is now serving aboard the Naval Station Mayport in Mayport, Florida.
According to a news release, Petty Officer First Class Dominick Poindexter, a native of Hopkinsville and 2003 graduate of Christian County High School, steps in at Naval Station Mayport to help in their mission of sustaining and enhancing warfighter readiness.
The station at Mayport covers 3,409 acres and is the third largest naval facility in the continental United States. Poindexter joined the Navy 16 years ago and says he’s been able to see the world while serving his country. Poindexter says, “I learned that you have to create opportunity. When you get those opportunities you have to take full advantage of them, work hard and accomplish the goals you set out for yourself.”
Poindexter says he relies upon skills and values similar to those found in Hopkinsville to succeed in the military.
