Man charged with drug trafficking following Madisonville pursuit

The Madisonville Police Department has charged a man with numerous counts of drug trafficking following a pursuit early Friday morning.

According to the police report, officers were parked in the parking lot of the One Stop on South Main Street around 4:20 a.m. Friday when they observed a motor scooter operated by Donnie Durham that did not have a working tail light. When a traffic stop was attempted, Durham allegedly failed to stop and reportedly fled, resulting in a pursuit down several streets, including at one point where he reportedly struck the back of one of the cruisers, as they pulled in front of him to an attempt to get him to stop.

Eventually, Durham reportedly abandoned the motor scooter on West Jagoe Street and fled on foot behind multiple houses, tossing a black bag and causing damage to a fence while attempting to jump it.  He was taken into custody and searched, where officers allegedly discovered synthetic drugs and a large amount of cash.

The black bag was located and reportedly contained multiple syringes, a baggie of suspected methamphetamine, a bag of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Durham is charged with fleeing or evading police, tampering with physical evidence, trafficking in meth, trafficking in synthetic drugs, trafficking in marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and several traffic violations.
