>>Report: Star Running Backs Meet To Talk Contracts

 

(Undated)  — NFL running backs are fed up with the current system.  According to ESPN, several star ballcarriers took part in a Zoom call Saturday to discuss the depressed market for players at their position.  Among the participants included Cleveland Browns back Nick Chubb, Saquon Barkley from the Giants, Tennessee’s Derrick Henry, the Niners’ Christian McCaffrey and Josh Jacobs from the Raiders.  The meeting was organized by the Chargers’ Austin Ekeler, who has been outspoken about NFL running backs not being paid their true worth.  The players kicked around ideas during the call, but no major plans emerged from the meeting.  Barkley and Jacobs received the franchise tag from New York and Las Vegas respectively, but were unable to agree to long-term contracts before last Monday’s deadline.

 

>>Report: NBA Board Of Governors Approves Sale Of Charlotte Hornets

 

(Charlotte, NC)  — Michael Jordan’s run as the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets is coming to a close.  ESPN reports that the NBA’s Board of Governors approved the sale of the franchise to a group led by Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin.  James Dolan, the owner of the New York Knicks, was the lone member to vote against the sale.  The estimated three-billion-dollar sale is expected to be completed within the next one-to-two weeks.  Jordan will retain a minority stake in the franchise.

 

>>Titans Sign Will Levis To Rookie Deal

 

(Nashville, TN)  — The Titans are signing their rookie quarterback.  Will Levis agreed to a four-year contract with Tennessee over the weekend.  The Titans traded up in the second round of April’s draft to select the Kentucky gunslinger.  He’s expected to battle second-year quarterback Malik Willis for the backup role behind starter Ryan Tannehill.

 

>>Chiefs’ Toney Departs Practice With Knee Injury

 

(St. Joseph, MO)  — The defending Super Bowl champions began training camp without one of their key offensive weapons.  Wide receiver Kadarius Toney departed the field prior to the first practice of camp with a knee injury.  Chiefs head coach Andy Reid described the injury as a “tweak” while mentioning that it occurred while Toney was fielding a punt before the official start of practice.  The 24-year-old totaled 14 receptions for 171 yards and two touchdowns in seven games with Kansas City last season.

 

>>Brian Harman Wins The Open Championship

 

(Hoylake, England)  — Brian Harman is celebrating his first major championship after winning The Open at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in England.  Harman finished atop the leaderboard at 13 under par after shooting a 70 in the final round.  Four players tied for second place.  Jason Day, Tom Kim, Sepp Straka and Jon Rahm each finished seven under par.  Rory McIlroy and Emiliano Grillo tied for sixth place at six under.  Defending champion Cameron Smith finished tied with several other players for 33rd at one over par.

 

>>Denny Hamlin Earns 50th Career Victory With Pocono Win

 

(Long Pond, PA)  — Denny Hamlin is celebrating a career milestone after his latest NASCAR Cup Series victory at Pocono Raceway.  Hamlin earned his 50th-career Cup Series win after taking home the checkered flag in the HighPoint.com 400.  The driver of the number-11 car led just nine of 160 laps in the race.  Last week’s Crayon 301 winner Martin Truex Jr. finished third while Tyler Reddick claimed second place.  Kevin Harvick and Ty Gibbs rounded out the top five finishers.  The racers head to Richmond for the Cook Out 400 on Sunday.
