Tavaris Quarles, the man charged in the shooting death of Christopher Montrell Mumford, entered a guilty plea in Christian Circuit Court Friday afternoon.
Quarles was originally charged with murder in the incident, but he pled guilty to the amended charge of second-degree manslaughter Friday, along with numerous other charges, with special prosecutor Clayton Adams says it comes with a recommended sentence of 25-years in total.
Quarles entered his guilty plea, with Judge John Atkins accepting it.
The judge clarified that Quarles will be eligible for parole after serving 20 percent of his sentence.
The shooting happened in May of last year in the 800 block of East Fourth Street. Trial in the case had been set to begin on July 31, but with the entering of a guilty plea, that has been vacated.
Final sentencing was set for September 13.
