Major General JP McGee relinquishes command of 101st Airborne Division in ceremony

Fort Campbell and the 101st Airborne Division, Air Assault bid farewell to outgoing Commanding General, Major General JP McGee with a change of command ceremony Thursday morning.

Major General McGee has been with the division through numerous historic events, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the beginning of the conflict in Europe between Russia and Ukraine, the tragic loss of nine soldiers when two helicopters went down in Trigg County in March—and he says through all those things, the soldiers of the 101st were ready to step up each time.

He says he will dearly miss Fort Campbell and his time here, which will never be forgotten, but he knows thanks to the excellent leadership, the division is ready to face whatever comes their way.

Major General Brett Sylvia accepted the colors as Major General McGee relinquished command, and he says this assignment is a dream come true.  He says that he intends to continues the legacy of excellence and make sure that the Airborne Division is ready to rendezvous with destiny.

This is not the first time Major General Sylvia has been at Fort Campbell—he served as Chief of Staff for the 101st Airborne in 2018, Commander of Task Force STRIKE and 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division, and he’s had numerous other assignments, including as Junior Military Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of Defense.
