A Clarksville man is facing numerous charges following a brief pursuit in Hopkinsville Thursday afternoon.
According to the report from the Hopkinsville Police Department, Public Safety Officers responded to the 1200 block of East Ninth Street around 5:15 p.m. for reports of a possible crash or abandoned vehicle. While pulling onto the scene, the vehicle that had been parked sideways in the roadway suddenly accelerated backwards and headed down East Ninth.
Officers located the vehicle near the Pennyrile Parkway and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver reportedly failed to stop. The vehicle did eventually come to a stop and contact was made with the driver, 42-year-old Corey Middleton of Clarksville, who allegedly ignored commands and actively resisted arrest.
A search of the vehicle revealed a child in a car seat in the back seats.
Middleton was arrested and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree fleeing or evading police, leaving the scene of an accident, resisting arrest, DUI and driving on a DUI suspended license.
