Man charged in connection with East 14th Street shooting

A Hopkinsville man has been charged in connection with a shooting that happened in May that injured Benjamin Murray.

According to the arrest warrant served by Hopkinsville Police, on May 14 around 2 a.m., 31-year-old Devon Poindexter allegedly shot Murray at a location on East 14th Street, causing injuries that sent Murray to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment.

He is also accused of wantonly firing a handgun proximity to a crowd of people who were leaving a party in that area, putting them at risk.

Poindexter was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
