Woman charged with felony theft from elderly victim

A Hopkinsville woman is facing a felony theft charge after she allegedly stole approximately $30,000 from an elderly victim while she was a live-in caretaker.

According to the arrest warrant, 60-year-old Ann Medina of Hopkinsville worked for the victim for about five years as a caregiver and investigation determined that the victim sold some property in 2022, receiving $50,000 in cash.  She deposited $10,000 in the bank but kept the rest in a shoe box, and on multiple occasions asked Medina to take her to the bank so she could deposit the rest.

Medina reportedly would make excuses to not take her, and in July of 2023, she allegedly confessed to stealing money. She reportedly left the victim’s home overnight and did not return.

There was approximately $3,000 left in the shoe box when the victim reported the theft.
