Grand jury returns indictments for assault, attempted murder

A Christian County Grand Jury has returned indictments for assault and attempted murder.

Indicted for second-degree domestic violence is 55-year-old John Stacy of Hopkinsville.  A warrant states that on May 24, Stacy was in an argument with his girlfriend when he allegedly punched her in the face before striking her on the torso with a wooden stick.

The victim required treatment at a dentist for loosened front teeth and the warrant says she had bruising on her arms from attempting to block the blows from the stick.

Thirty-one-year old Cody Alire of Evansville has been indicted for three counts of attempted murder of a police officer, attempted first-degree assault, fifteen counts of attempted first-degree wanton endangerment, felony receiving stolen property, attempted fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render air and speeding in relation to a multi-county pursuit on May 24.

The Kentucky State Police arrest citation for Alire says the pursuit began in McLean County before continuing through Muhlenberg County and into Christian County, where he allegedly caused another vehicle to wreck. One person in that vehicle was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say Alire fired a gun at police multiple times during the pursuit, including in Hopkinsville before he wrecked out into a utility pole in front of the East Seventh Street Dollar General after Hopkinsville police used a tire deflation device on his car.

Indicted for second-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment and second-degree criminal mischief is 42-year-old Nicholas O’Neil of Hopkinsville.  He is alleged to have use a dangerous instrument to injure a victim in May of 2023, and wantonly engaged in conduct that created a substantial risk of death or serious injury to that same victim.
