Hopkinsville man charged with assault, strangulation

A Hopkinsville man has been charged with severely assaulting his wife Friday night.

According to the Hopkinsville police report, a witness reportedly saw 39-year-old John Foster of Hopkinsville drag his wife into a residence on East 23rd Street against her will, telling her she wasn’t allowed to leave. He allegedly struck her multiple times with his fists and drug her by her hair, hitting her with a screen door as he pulled her inside.

He reportedly took her phone and would not allow her to call 911—he also allegedly grabbed her by the throat and squeezed, causing swelling to her throat.

The victim was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, and she was having trouble asking questions remembering events while speaking with law enforcement.

Foster was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, first-degree strangulation and first-degree unlawful imprisonment.
