Storm causes damages in downtown Hopkinsville

An isolated severe weather event in Hopkinsville Wednesday afternoon caused damages to buildings downtown.

Christian County Emergency Management Director Randy Graham says it could end-up being a down burst of wind in what was otherwise a standard rainstorm that caused numerous moderate-to-heavy damages in the East Ninth Street area. That includes a good portion of the roof taken from the old Pennyrile Children’s Advocacy Center, damage to the Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority and and the PACS building, along with numerous others in the East Ninth Street area.

The storm put down trees and power lines, with approximately 2,500 Hopkinsville Electric System Members left in the dark.

Citizens are asked to avoid the downtown area for the time being, as crews work to clean up and repair the damages to a section of the city that has often faced wind damage.
