Hearing to argue motion to dismiss set in 2006 murder case

An evidentiary hearing was set in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday concerning a motion to dismiss the indictment against 2006 murder suspect Lashanda Person.

Person is charged with murder and robbery in the 2006 death of Roscoe Mayes on Greenville Road, but public defender Doug Moore contends that false information was presented to the grand jury that returned the indictment against her in April 2022.  He requested a hearing to argue that be set—and defense attorney Brandi Jones, who represents a co-defendant in the case, Annastaja Hathaway—intends to argue it as well.

Judge Andrew Self set a hearing date of August 8, and Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen says she’ll get in contact with both the presenting officer and the Commonwealth Attorney who handled the indictment.

Judge Self asked about the continuing investigation into the case, and Bolen says she hopes to have the wrapped up by August 8.

The judge also granted a motion to refund Person’s cash bond and a previous pretrial hearing date of July 19 was vacated.
