>>Angels’ Mike Trout Out 4-To-8 Weeks With Hand Fracture
(Anaheim, CA) — The Angels are losing Mike Trout for at least a month. Los Angeles announced the All-Star outfielder was placed on the 10-day injured list with a broken hamate bone in his left wrist. Trout is expected to miss 4-to-8 weeks due to the injury. The 31-year-old suffered the injury in Monday’s loss to the San Diego Padres. Trout added that he doesn’t know if he needs surgery or not. The three-time AL MVP is batting .263 with 18 home runs and 44 RBI this season.
>>Dodgers Lose Dustin May To Season-Ending Surgery
(Los Angeles, CA) — The Dodgers are going to be without a member of their pitching rotation for the rest of the season. Los Angeles announced right-hander Dustin May will undergo season-ending surgery to repair the flexor tendon in his right elbow. The surgery is scheduled for July 18th. May was moved to the injured list after suffering a strained right elbow back in May. The 25-year-old posted a 4-and-1 record with a 2.63 ERA through nine starts this season.
>>Padres Designate Nelson Cruz For Assignment
(San Diego, CA) — The Padres are parting ways with Nelson Cruz after a short stint with the team. San Diego designated the 43-year-old slugger for assignment on Tuesday. Cruz had signed a one-year contract with the Padres before the season and batted .245 with five home runs and 23 RBI in 49 games. San Diego manager Bob Melvin said it was a tough decision for the team and that the group needed “to have a little bit more versatility.” Cruz is in his 19th major league season and is a seven-time All-Star.
>>Cardinals Get Pummeled By Marlins
(Miami, FL) — The St. Louis Cardinals got rocked during a 15-2 loss to the Miami Marlins at Loan Depot Park. The Cardinals gave up 19 hits in the losing effort and didn’t score until the top of the ninth inning. Adam Wainwright was charged with his fourth loss after allowing four earned runs and three unearned runs on seven hits in three-and-a-third innings. Wainwright was placed on the 15-day injured list after the start. The Cardinals bullpen didn’t fare much better, and James Naile was tagged for eight runs in just an inning-and-a-third in relief. St. Louis remains in last place in the NL Central at 35-and-50. The Cardinals take on the Marlins once again tonight.
>>Reds Defeat Nationals On Independence Day
(Washington, DC) — The Reds notched their third straight win. Cincinnati defeated the Washington Nationals 8-4 in the nation’s capital on the Fourth of July. Jonathan India went deep twice while totaling three RBI and three runs scored. Nick Senzel also drove-in three runs with a homer in the third inning. Starting pitcher Brett Kennedy earned his first win of the season and Lucas Sims recorded his first save. The Reds are atop the NL Central at 47-and-39. They will send right-hander Graham Ashcraft to the mound against Washington tonight.
