>>Wolves Lock Down Edwards

 

(Minneapolis, MN)  — The Minnesota Timberwolves are making a long-term commitment to their young superstar.  The team signed guard Anthony Edwards to a five-year rookie maximum extension on Monday.  The deal is worth up to 260-million dollars over the life of the contract.  Edwards was the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.  He’s increased his points, rebounds, and assists averages in each of his three NBA seasons, culminating in an All-Star appearance last year.  He averaged 24.6 points in 79 games for the Wolves last season.

 

>>Ohio State Football Lands Five-Star Recruit

 

(Columbus, OH)  — Ohio State football is landing a top recruit.  Justin Scott announced he’s joining the Buckeyes for the 2024 season.  The defensive tackle is a five-star prospect according to 24-7 Sports and is the fourth-ranked defensive lineman in the nation.  ESPN has Scott as the 34th overall prospect in the 2024 class.  He chose Ohio State over Georgia, Miami, Michigan and Notre Dame.  He had 42 tackles, 13 for loss, to go with four-and-a-half sacks for Chicago’s St. Ignatius College Prep last season.

 

>>Churchill Downs: Baffert Suspension Extended Through ’24

 

(Louisville, KY)  — Hall of Fame racehorse trainer Bob Baffert will remain on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.  Churchill Downs says the two-time Triple Crown winner’s 2021 suspension over Medina Spirit’s failed drug test is being extended through 2024.  The track released a statement Monday, saying that extension is because of ongoing concerns regarding “the threat to the safety and integrity of racing.”  Churchill Downs says Baffert is still telling falsehoods about the failed test, and that it will re-evaluate his status after next year.

(London)  — The opening day of Wimbledon is in the books.  Four-time defending champion Novak Djokovic and fourth-seeded Casper Ruud each rolled to victories in the first round.  American Michael Mmoh stunned 11th-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime in a four-set win that included three tiebreakers.  On the women’s side, seventh-seeded Coco Gauff was upset by fellow American Sofia Kenin in a three-set thriller.  Venus Williams was also knocked out of the tournament, while top-seeded Iga Swiatek and fourth-seeded Jessica Pegula each advanced on.

 

>>Titans “Well Positioned” For DeAndre Hopkins

 

(Nashville, TN)  — The Titans are “well positioned” to land DeAndre Hopkins.  That’s according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who made the statement yesterday.  He says, “I’ve checked on this just recently and I was told the Tennessee Titans are still pretty well positioned here.  They’re in the mix, and certainly they have a high level of interest from head coach Mike Vrabel.”  Fowler also said the Patriots are also in the mix along with the Chiefs.

 

>>Saints Tight End Foster Moreau’s Cancer Is In Remission

 

(Undated)  — New Orleans Saints tight end Foster Moreau is receiving some great news.  Moreau announced on Monday that his cancer is now in full remission.  He was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma during a physical with the Saints at a free agency visit in March.  He ended up signing with New Orleans after finishing his treatment two months later, and he was able to practice with the team during voluntary workouts in May.  The 26-year-old caught 33 passes for 420 yards and two touchdowns with the Las Vegas Raiders last season.

 

>>Former Arizona Cardinals Coach Vince Tobin Dead

 

(Undated)  — Former NFL coach Vince Tobin has passed away at the age of 79.  Tobin led the Arizona Cardinals to their first playoff win in over 50 years during the 1998 season.  He coached a team led by iconic franchise players like quarterback Jake Plummer and defensive back Pat Tillman.  Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill [[ bid-well ]] said Tobin’s steady leadership was a big reason for the team’s success during his time as head coach.  Tobin also served as defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions.
