Fiscal Court accepts bid for tornado sirens in Pembroke, Oak Grove

Christian Fiscal Court approved bids to put up tornado sirens in Pembroke and Oak grove at the recent meeting.

The sirens are through a Hazard Mitigation Grant for FEMA and Christian County Emergency Management Director Randy Graham says they applied for four sirens, but will have to bid out the fourth siren later due to recent property acquisition by the City of Hopkinsville that they can utilize.

He says in the future they’d like to make it where they can monitor the sirens activity, which would allow them to keep them in working condition.

Graham says the bulk of the money for the sirens will come from FEMA and the State, but the city and county would pay for roughly 13 percent of the costs.

The sirens would be located in the City of Hopkinsville near the Walmart Distribution Center, two in Oak Grove on both ends of Walter Garrett Lane and in the City of Pembroke to replace one that had failed.
