(Nashville, TN) — The next generation of top hockey talent donned their pro-team’s sweaters during the NHL Entry Draft at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Wednesday night. The Chicago Blackhawks wasted no time in selecting Connor Bedard first overall. He’s considered the NHL’s most exciting prospect since Connor McDavid entered the league in 2015. The Anaheim Ducks followed up by selecting center Leo Carlsson out of Sweden at pick number-2 while the Columbus Blue Jackets drafted center Adam Fantilli from the University of Michigan with the third pick. Six of the top 10 selections were centers, which was the most drafted since 2017. Rounds two-through-seven take place on Thursday. The Predators selected right wing Matthew Wood from UConn at 15th and defenseman Tanner Molendyk from the WHL 24th overall in the first round. Rounds two-through-seven take place today. Nashville has a pair of second rounders along with three third and fourth-round picks.

The French center had been listed at several heights ahead of the NBA Draft and the league unofficially marked him at 7-foot-4. The 19-year-old Wembanyama enters the NBA as the second tallest player, behind Houston Rockets center Boban Marjanovic, who’s listed at 7-foot-4.

(Nashville, TN) — Tennessee State University will be the first HBCU with an ice hockey team. The announcement was made yesterday at Bridgestone Arena before the NHL Draft. The team will be a partnership with the NHL, its Players Association and the Predators. With the addition, TSU also becomes the first university in Tennessee to have an ice hockey team.

(Hoffman Estates, IL) — Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Simone Biles is returning to competition. The four-time gold medal winner will take part in the U.S. Classic in Illinois in August. It will be her first competitive event since the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Biles withdrew from the team finals and individual all-around competition in Tokyo to focus on her mental health. The U.S. Classic will take place August 4th and 5th.

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A 13-year-old Australian girl is the first female skateboarder to pull off a Tony Hawk “720” in competition. And she did it in front of the skateboarding pioneer. Arisa Trew landed two airborne rotations in winning the women’s competition at Hawk’s Vert Alert last weekend in Salt Lake City. Trew’s coach, Trevor Ward, said the teen hopes to qualify for the skateboarding competition at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
