People urged to remember safety tips as heatwave moves in

Some of the hottest temperatures the region has seen this year—maybe even many years—is settling into western Kentucky and people are urged to make sure they’re staying safe.

A Heat Advisory is effect through Friday night, with places to our west under an Excessive Heat Warning, and Saturday could bring its own share of high temperatures, with National Weather Service Meteorologist Justin Gibbs saying this heatwave could be some of the hottest temperatures we’ve had in the area since 2012.

He urged people to stay hydrated, spend as much time out of the sun as possible, and check up on people who may not have reliable access to air-conditioning, as everyone is capable of having a heat related illness.

Never leave a child or pet in an unattended vehicle and be sure outdoor pets have shelter from the sun and a constant supply of water. An enclosed dog house should not be their only source of shade, as temperatures inside of the dog house can get dangerously hot.
