As the first significant heatwave of the year makes its way into the region on Thursday and Friday, the Tennessee Valley Authority is putting out some advice on how to keep cool and save on energy costs.
There could be real temperatures in the triple digits across the region Thursday through Saturday, and paired with high humidity, the heat index could touch 110 degrees in some areas. That means power demand will be up, as people work to keep their homes cool. TVA Media Senior Specialist Adam May gave some tips, saying covering your windows during the heat of the day and turning up the thermostat some could really save on your energy costs.
He says because of the anticipated high demand, the TVA has entered a Conservative Operations Alert and will stay in that through Saturday.
The TVA has been preparing for summer heat season, by completing preventative maintenance on key equipment, such as oil coolers and heat exchangers and making sure employees are prepared to work in the summer heat if an issue arises.
