>>LSU Wins 2023 Men’s College World Series Championship

 

(Omaha, NE)  — The LSU Tigers are the 2023 Men’s College World Series champions.  LSU dismantled Florida 18-4 in the decisive Game Three of the championship series in Omaha.  Six separate batters drove-in two or more runs to lead LSU to the program’s seventh national championship title.  Dylan Crews, who is projected as a top-three pick in next month’s MLB Draft, finished the game 4-for-6 with one RBI and three runs scored.  The Tigers got redemption over their SEC rival after falling to the Gators in the College World Series final in 2017.

 

>>Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama To Skip FIBA World Cup

 

(San Antonio, TX)  — San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama won’t be playing in this summer’s FIBA World Cup after all.  The recently drafted center announced he will skip the World Cup and will focus on preparing for his rookie season.  Wembanyama had originally planned to play for his home country of France.  The 19-year-old added that he wants to play in some of the Spurs’ summer league games next month.  Wembanyama was selected by San Antonio with the first overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft.

 

>>Connor McDavid Wins Third MVP Trophy

 

(Nashville, TN)  — Connor McDavid is taking home the third Hart Trophy of his career.  The 26-year-old star for the Edmonton Oilers claimed his third MVP award after totaling 64 goals and 153 points this past season.  Erik Karlsson of the San Jose Sharks won the James Norris Memorial Trophy, which goes to the NHL’s top defenseman, while Matty Beniers was named the recipient of the Calder, which goes to the game’s top rookie.  The Boston Bruins had an impressive showing after a historic season, with goaltender Linus Ullmark winning the Vezina, head coach Jim Montgomery taking the Jack Adams Award, and captain Patrice Bergeron claiming his sixth Selke Trophy.

 

>>Kentucky Basketball Lands Transfer Commit From West Virginia

 

(Lexington, KY)  — Kentucky men’s basketball is adding a transfer from West Virginia.  Tre Mitchell announced he’s joining the Wildcats for the upcoming season.  Mitchell entered the transfer portal after Bob Huggins resigned from the school.  Kentucky coach John Calipari said, “I know this is a win for us and I believe this will be a win for him too.”  The six-foot-nine forward averaged just under 12 points and five-and-a-half rebounds per game last season.

 

>>MLB Announces All-Star Futures Game Rosters

 

(Seattle, WA)  — Major League Baseball is announcing the rosters for this year’s All-Star Futures Game.  Baltimore Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday headlines the American League roster and he’s joined by seven other first-round selections.  Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Jordan Lawlar leads the National League team, alongside five other first-round picks.  In total, 50 players will be featured in the Futures Game, which showcases the league’s top prospects.  The seven-inning contest will be played on July 8th at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

 

>>Coach Prime Recovering After Successful Surgery

 

(Undated)  — “Coach Prime” is on the road to recovery after successful surgery to fix blood clots in his left leg.  Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders used social media to announce the successful surgery on Friday.  The Pro Football Hall of Famer also has a blood clot in his right leg that doctors will address in the future.  Sanders has been dealing with significant blood flow issues and in 2021 had several surgeries, including the removal of two toes on his left foot.  The 55-year-old expects to be on the sideline for Colorado’s season opener against TCU on September 2nd.
