Heritage Christian Academy is celebrating one of their students being named as a winner of a National Merit Scholarship.
According to a news release, to compete for the awards, semifinalists had to advance to the finalist level by fulfilling additional requirements. Each semifinalist was asked to submit a detailed application, which included writing an essay and providing information about extracurricular activities, awards, and leadership positions. Applicants also must have an outstanding academic record, be recommended by their high school and earn SAT or ACT scores that confirmed the qualifying test performance.
Of those semifinalists, over 15,000 met the requirements to become a finalist, and only half of finalists were named 2023 winners. Jake Bottoms of Heritage Christian Academy was one of those winners and HCA officials say they are beyond proud of his achievement.
Bottoms plans to attend the University of Louisville in the fall and participate in the school’s Biology Honors Program.
