Hopkinsville City Council passes budget on second-reading

Hopkinsville City Council approved the budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year on second-reading at Tuesday evening’s meeting.

The $48 million operational budget doesn’t include any anticipated increased tax rates and passed unanimously on second-reading—as did the $2 million capital budget. Council also approved the pay classification scale and amendments to the 2022-23 budget.

Chief Financial Officer Melissa Clayton presented the monthly financial report and says payroll taxes continue to come in very strong as they head towards the end of this budget cycle.

She says the general fund is also healthy.

In other action, council approved establishing all-way stop signs on Central Avenue, and passed ordinances rezoning property along Old Concord Lane and Peach Tree Place on second-reading.
