One of the suspects accused in the 2006 death of Roscoe Mayes on Greenville Road has been released from custody as the case against her is reassessed.
Annastaja Hathaway appeared in the Christian Circuit Courtroom of Judge Andrew Self Wednesday afternoon alongside defense attorney Brandi Jones, who made a motion for bond modification for her client. Citing one co-defendant’s case having been previously dismissed and another being out on bond already, Jones says it’s a miscarriage of justice that Hathaway is waiting in jail while more investigation is underway.
Jones says there is no evidence against her client and it seems the case is based off a statement from one person.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen says her office is reviewing the case against Hathaway and her co-defendant—Lashanda Person—due to the charges being dismissed against Regina Vause, a third suspect by the prior Commonwealth’s Attorney.
Judge Self granted the motion to release Hathaway, with the condition that she would be required to wear an ankle monitor. A prior date for a suppression hearing was vacated, with a pretrial hearing set for July 19.
Hathaway and Person are both charged with murder and first-degree robbery.
