The Clarksville Police Department says crimes involving juveniles has spiked since May 24, and they’re putting out the call for help in keeping youth out of trouble.
According to a news release, since the last day of school in Montgomery County, Clarksville police have responded to 249 calls involving juveniles, which has resulted in 43 young people being charged with non-violent criminal activity. Those includes infractions such as vehicle burglary, joyriding, criminal impersonation and traffic violations.
Along with that, Clarksville police have charged six juveniles with violent crimes, including a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old for criminal homicide. The others include a 17-year-old for aggravated assault/reckless endangerment, a 14-year-old for aggravated burglary, and a 17-year-old for aggravated domestic assault.
Officials say the statistics are staggering and should concern the people of Montgomery County. They’re asking for family members to know where their young people are and keep them home during the curfew hours.
