Todd County considering outdoor burn ban as dry conditions worsen

With western Kentucky approaching official drought status, Todd County is considering implementation of an outdoor burn ban.

Todd County Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith told fiscal court Friday morning that if they don’t get significant rainfall soon, they’ll have to consider banning outdoor burning until conditions improve.

There is a chance for rain Sunday night and Monday, but the National Weather Service has said it’s unlikely to be a washout.

The most recent drought status indicator map shows western Trigg and counties to the west and south already in a moderate drought, with the rest of western Kentucky in the abnormally dry classification.

Fiscal court postponed final reading of its budget for the upcoming fiscal year until its next meeting, as the spending plan still has to be properly advertised in the Kentucky New Era.
