For the final time Friday morning, WHOP News Director Adam May signed off from the morning newscast, as he heads to a new job with the Tennessee Valley Authority.
May has been on the air and reading the news since 1998, so regular listeners to WHOP will be very familiar with his voice bringing them the information and details they need to know locally all across Christian, Trigg, Todd and surrounding counties. He took over as News Director in 2010 and says it’s been an honor to serve and he couldn’t have done it without the support of family, co-workers and the listeners.
He says being in the News Department at WHOP is truly a public service that often calls for long nights and early mornings.
Former Hopkinsville Police Department Public Information Officer Paul Ray says you could always count on May to make sure things were reported accurately and fairly.
Former Todd County Fiscal Court Magistrate and Elkton City Councilman Brent Spurlin has known May for many years and says he was and is a great asset to Todd County.
Events of note that May has covered over the years include the devastating tornados in both 2006 and 2021, snowstorms in 2014 and 2015, the September 11, 2001 attacks, the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, the 2017 total solar eclipse, and so much more and everything else in between.
May now heads to the TVA, where he will serve as a media senior specialist—but he intends to stay in the area, continuing to serve the communities he loves.
