12 runs in the first inning prove to be too much as the WhirlyBirdz defeat the Hoppers

For the first time ever, the newly founded Clarksville WhirlyBirdz played inside Colonel Field on Wednesday night and took on the Hoptown Hoppers.

The WhirlyBirdz however, felt very comfortable as they managed to get 17 hits which proved to be enough to take down the Hoppers in a 15-5 final.

5 walks, 2 errors, and 7 hits to include a grand-slam, all came in the top of the first inning scoring 12 runs, as 16 at-bats lasted over 30 minutes.

After the first inning, the Hoppers managed to outscore the WhirlyBirdz five runs to three, scoring 2 runs each in the third and fourth, and one in the seventh.

Due to the OVL mercy-rule, the game was complete after seven innings with a ten-run lead.

Clarksville’s Chipper Harris was the winning pitcher while Cody Jones received the loss for Hoptown.

Blaze Bell stood out for the WhirlyBirdz with a perfect five-for-five performance at the plate with four singles and one double.

In a tough loss as a team, Stephen Bell was a bright spot for the Hoppers going three for four on the night with three singles.

With the loss, the Hoppers move to 3-8 on the season and will host the Madisonville Miners on Thursday for their annual Military Appreciation Night.

The game will be played at 6:30 PM with pregame coverage starting at 6:15 on NewsRadio 99.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.
