MLB Update 6-13-2023

>>Royals DFA Veteran OF Jackie Bradley Jr.

(Kansas City, MO)  — The Royals are moving on from one of their most experienced players.  Kansas City designated veteran outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. for assignment on Monday.  The 33-year-old is batting .133 with one home run and six RBI in 43 games this season.  The former All-Star was signed by Kansas City this offseason after splitting the 2022 season between the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays.  In a corresponding move, the team called up fellow outfielder Dairon Blanco from Triple-A Omaha.

>>Mets Sign Voit To Minor League Deal

(Flushing, NY)  — The Mets could be looking to add a little extra pop to their lineup.  New York signed Luke Voit to a minor league deal on Monday and was assigned to Triple-A Syracuse.  Voit was designated for assignment on May 29th after playing in 22 games with the Milwaukee Brewers this season.  The 32-year-old signed a minor league contract with the Brewers in the offseason, opted out of it and signed a major league deal with the club for two-million-dollars.  Voit is a career .253 hitter with 95 home runs, 68 of which came across four seasons with the New York Yankees.

>>Cardinals Blow Lead Against Giants

(St. Louis, MO)  — The St. Louis Cardinals couldn’t hold on to a late lead during a 4-3 loss to the San Francisco Giants at Busch Stadium.  Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run go-ahead home run in the bottom of the sixth to put St. Louis up by one, but Mitch Haniger tied the game with an RBI single in the next half-inning.  Chris Stratton gave up another run in the eighth and was charged with his first loss in relief.  Paul DeJong also homered for St. Louis, who remain in last-place in the NL Central at 27-and-40.  Jack Flaherty starts for St. Louis against the Giants tonight.

>>Cardinals Put RP Helsley On IL

(St. Louis, MO)  — The Cardinals bullpen will be missing one of its top relievers for at least two weeks.  The team placed reliever Ryan Helsley on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm strain yesterday.  Helsley suffered the injury during his last appearance on June 7th.  The 28-year-old is 3-and-4 with a 3.24 ERA and seven saves in 25 innings this season.  Pitcher Jake Woodford was recalled from Triple-A Memphis to take Helsley’s roster spot.

>>Reds Edge Royals In Series Opener

(Kansas City, MO)  — The Reds scored a late run and beat the Royals 5-4 in their series opener from Kansas City.  The game was tied at four heading into the top of the 10th until Jonathan India grounded into a fielder’s choice which scored the game winning run.  Buck Farmer earned the win after giving up one run in an inning-and-two-thirds of relief.  Cincy is third in the NL Central at 32-and-35.  Game two of the three-game set takes place tonight at 6:40 with a 6:10 pregame show on NewsRadio 99.3FM/1230AM WHOP.
