Man arrested following hit and run crash

A Hopkinsville man was arrested on multiple charges Wednesday morning following a hit and run collision near South Main and East Third Street.

A Hopkinsville police officer observed a vehicle swerving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed on North Main near Sanderson Drive about 8 a.m. and activated her lights and siren.

Before she could catch up to that SUV, it had collided with another vehicle at Main and Third and the driver, 39-year old Matthew Mitchell of Hopkinsville, allegedly fled the scene on foot.

He was located soon after in Little River Park, with an arrest citation saying he was yelling and cursing.

Mitchell was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for medical clearance and police say he became belligerent there and caused a disturbance.

He was lodged in the Christian County Jail for first-degree wanton endangerment, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and disorderly conduct.
