Hoppers who fall to Pistons after walking 17 batters, move on to Railroaders Wednesday night

It was a night to forget for the Hoppers as they were defeated by the Bowling Green Pistons 26-4 inside Colonel Field.

During the contest, the Pistons managed to get 14 hits while being walked 17 times by a total of 7 Hopper pitchers.

Bowling Green opened the 1st inning scoring one run but it was a brutal third inning for the Hoppers defensively, as they walked 7 batters and allowed 12 runs to score with 4 of them coming from a grand slam homer by Kameron Byrd.

Earlier in that inning, there was controversy, as during a 3-1 count with two outs, a throw from Jack Jennings to Zen Hiatt was called a strike, but not before Hiatt had already thrown his bat and jogged towards first. After a humorous reaction from the Hopper home fans, Hiatt then proceeded to pick up his bat and step in the box, but was called for a delay of game by the second-base umpire which struck him out and took the Hoppers off of the field.

However, moments later the home-plate umpire overruled the strikeout and said that Hiatt was talking to him which was the reason for the delay. Interim head coach Mike Albin then came out to home plate upset with the call. The umpire then told him to go back to the dugout, but after more words from Albin, he was then ejected.

The Hoppers attempted to charge back scoring 4 runs in the 4th but didn’t score again as they saw the Pistons score eight runs in the 6th and five runs in the 7th which led to a mercy rule.

The Hoppers now turn their attention to the Fulton Railroaders as they will host them Wednesday night at 6:30 and again on Friday night.
