Leamy chosen by local Republicans as nominee for commonwealth’s attorney

Assistant Christian County Attorney Maureen Leamy has been nominated by the local Republican party as its nominee for commonwealth’s attorney in the November general election.

Leamy has spent the last 17 years prosecuting in district court and was an assistant commonwealth’s attorney from 2005-2006.

A news release says Leamy was chosen unanimously at a recent special-called meeting of the Christian County Republican Party Executive Committee.

She’s quoted as saying, “I’ve been both a public defender and assistant commonwealth’s attorney right here in Hopkinsville, so I understand the enormous challenges of administering justice with fairness and timeliness. I look forward to running a principled, transparent and law-abiding office staffed with people of integrity and character.”

She will face incumbent Democrat Stephanie Bolen, who was appointed to the position by Governor Andy Beshear earlier this year following the resignation of Rick Boling.

The winner will fill out Boling’s unexpired term and won’t get a break from the campaign trail, as the office will be back on the 2024 ballot as originally scheduled.
