Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation ready for a full summer of events

The Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department has a full slate of events planned for the summer, from barbecue to concerts to water festivities.

It all starts off this Friday evening with the fifth annual Squealin’ on the Square, where the smells of barbecue cooking will take over Founders Square in downtown Hopkinsville from the morning to the afternoon. Superintendent Toby Hudson says the teams are not just competing for bragging rights, they’re also aiming for the grand prize.

Then starting at 6 p.m., the food from the competition will go on sale to the public an the Xtraordinary Gentlemen with take the stage to begin an evening of live music.

This summer sees the return of the Hoptown Hosedown—for 11 days in June and July, the Hopkinsville Fire Department will by traveling to parks around the city to safely douse attendees with water.  Hudson says this has always been a big hit with kids and the firefighters have a great time as well.

Bluegrass Splash—formerly known as Tie Breaker Family Aquatic Center—is officially back open for business and Hudson says it’s had a strong opening with big crowds, new equipment and good times.
