School Board approves policies for early graduation, complaint resolution

Policies concerning early graduation requirements and complaint resolution procedures were approved at Thursday evening’s meeting of the Christian County School Board.

The school system has had ‘hardship’ graduation policies in place for several years, but this new early graduation policy is an optional pathway in which a student may receive a high school diploma, Early Graduation Certificate and scholarship award from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority upon completion of all requirements in three academic years or less.

Assistant Superintendent Jessica Addison says interested students would have to meet numerous requirements to be eligible for the program and this policy lays out the specific language.

She says this program could be utilized by students who are joining the armed forces, pursuing early career or advanced educational opportunities and other differing situations. The board approved the policy unanimously.

The board also approved adopting a policy that creates a “Harmful to Minors” complaint resolution—Director of Pupil Personnel Melanie Barrett says it is a policy that is required by state law and establishes the means which a parent can report materials they find inappropriate to their child’s school.

In other action, the board also approved two wall panels projects at South Christian Elementary and Pembroke Elementary Schools, along with a roof restorative coating project at Millbrooke.
