Alhambra Theatre to celebrate 95th anniversary Saturday

The Alhambra Theatre is celebrating 95 years and a big party will be held Saturday evening to celebrate the occasion.

On May 28, 1928, the Alhambra Theatre came alive for the first time with lights, music and live entertainment in downtown Hopkinsville and it’s being doing that ever since, even through the time of the Great Depression and more recently, the COVID-19 pandemic. Pennyroyal Arts Council Business Manager Julia Sikes says they’ll be celebrating with a 1920’s theme gala starting at 6 p.m. Saturday.

She says there will be live music from the Todd Hill Orchestra, food and dancing, along with a historic theater surprise.

Sikes says people will be able to take home a copy of one of the original newspaper articles about the theater from the 1920’s as a souvenir.

The Arts Council will also be announcing their 2023-2024 Live at the Alhambra season.  Tickets to attend are $50 for a single ticket or $95.00 per couple.  For more information on the event or how to purchase tickets, visit
