Flags to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Scott Co. Deputy killed in line of duty

Governor Andy Beshear has announced that flags at all state buildings will be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Thursday in honor of a Scott County Deputy Sheriff who died in the line of duty.

Scott County Deputy Sheriff Caleb Conley was shot and killed during a traffic stop on I-75 on Monday, May 22. Conley served four years as a deputy sheriff of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and he previously served eight years in the U.S. Army. In 2020 and 2022, Conley received the Governor’s Award for impaired driving enforcement.

Governor Beshear says the Commonwealth is eternally grateful for Deputy Conley’s service and sacrifice, and he prays that he won’t have to order flags to half-staff for any other law enforcement officer lost in the line of duty this year.

Governor Beshear asks that all individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies join in this tribute to honor Deputy Conley.

The governor also gave an update on the implementation of sports betting in the state, after it passed the Kentucky General Assembly this year.  He says the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission is currently in the process of hiring for a wide variety of positions, with the goal of having operations up and running by the start of the NFL season.

Interested candidates can find detailed information on these positions and the application process on the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission website.
