Trial date set for rail-trail rape suspect

A trial date has been set for Jason Morse, the man accused of raping a young woman on the rail trail in Hopkinsville in July of last year.

Morse has two cases in Christian Circuit Court, one for the case where he is charged with first-degree rape, strangulation and tampering with physical evidence, and a second case where he’s facing multiple counts of felony theft by unlawful taking, possession of a controlled substance, fleeing or evading police, attempted theft of an automobile, resisting arrest, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen says she’s unsure which of the two cases she will take to trial first, but she’ll have a decision made by the time the date of September 11 arrives, which is when trial is set to begin for Morse.

As previously reported, Hopkinsville police say the victim had been walking with earbuds in listening to music when Morse allegedly grabbed her from behind in the area of the 3700 block of Bahama Drive. He allegedly raped, choked and threatened to kill the victim and then fled the area on foot.

Morse allegedly destroyed evidence after he was informed by a friend that the police were wanting to talk to him about an incident on the rail-trail.
